From your notes to a quiz
Turn your notes into a quiz with AI
Paste your notes, upload a PDF or a photo of your notebook and CanQuiz generates an exam-style quiz. If you miss a question, it explains why. Practice with your own material.
AI comes with the account, no API key.
Your notes into a quiz in three steps
Upload your notes
Paste the text, upload the PDF, or photograph your notebook pages. One message takes up to 20 files (up to 5 of them PDFs) and the AI reads them as a single source: your notes and the lecture slides end up in the same quiz.
AI converts them
In seconds you have the questions, each with its options, and an explanation arrives when you miss one or ask for it. You choose how much ground to cover, from the essentials to a thorough pass.
Practice and review
Answer, review what you missed, and repeat until you master it.
For any kind of notes
Lecture notes
What you wrote down in class, exactly as you wrote it. Paste the text or photograph the pages and see what survives a week later.
Handwritten notes
Upload a photo of your notebook and the AI reads your handwriting, as long as it is legible. No typing it up first.
Summaries and outlines
Writing a summary is a decent first review, but you end up rereading your own summary. Turn it into questions instead.
Course PDF
The handout from the campus site or the chapter your professor uploaded. One quiz per topic beats a single quiz over everything.
Why turn notes into a quiz
Practice what's on the exam
The quiz comes from your own material, so you study exactly what's tested.
It explains what you miss
When you miss a question, the AI explains why, and you can ask for it on the others.
Easy to pass around
The AI comes with the account. And the quiz travels the way everything travels in a class group chat: a link, or a file that opens with no sign-up.
In seconds
No typing questions by hand: paste the material and you're done.
Frequently asked questions
What formats does it accept?
Pasted text, PDF, photos (jpg, png, webp, or gif), and links to text-based web pages, if the site allows it (if not, paste the text). Word files and audio are not supported: if your notes live in a .docx, copy the text and paste it, or export it to PDF.
Does it work with handwritten notes?
Yes, as long as the handwriting is legible. The AI reads the photo directly, with nothing for you to transcribe: cramped script or faint pencil can get skipped, so read the questions over before you trust them.
What happens to the diagrams and tables in my notes?
The AI reads them and turns them into text questions: a diagram full of arrows becomes questions about the relationships it describes. The image never goes inside a question, because questions are text only. If the drawing carries the point, add a line describing it.
How many questions does it generate?
As many as your material carries, from 5 to 50, and you see the count before generating. Ask for an exact number and your number wins, up to the ceiling of 50.
What if my notes have gaps?
The quiz sticks to what you upload: if you missed that class and the section is not in your notes, it will not show up. Upload what is missing along with the rest, in the same message, and ask it to cover all of the material: what one file leaves out, the other usually has.
Is it free, photos of notes included?
Today, yes. No subscription, no paid plan. Photos of your notes come out of the AI included every month, no key and no card: enough for about 20 normal quizzes, and a big stack of pages spends more than a few.
Do I need an API key to upload photos of my notes?
No. With no key, the included AI is enough for about 20 normal quizzes a month, and it renews on the 1st. If you run short, your own key means no CanQuiz limit: Google, Anthropic or OpenAI keys all work.
Can I edit the questions?
Yes: wording, options, correct answer, and explanation, and you can delete questions or add your own. With your own notes it is usually worth it, because you know which of your abbreviations the AI misread.
Can I take the questions out of CanQuiz?
Yes, from the download button. If you revise with Anki, the text comes out ready to import there, with the answer on the back of the card, plus the explanation when the question already has one. And if you want it raw, there is the .json and the CSV.
What languages does it work in?
Your notes can be in any language. The quiz comes out in the language you write your request in, whatever it is, with technical terms and proper nouns left exactly as the material has them.
Who can see the quiz built from my notes?
Only you. A quiz built from a photo of your notebook starts private: it is not on the public list and nobody in your class sees it until you say so. And the material you upload to build it, the PDF or the photos, is kept privately only while you use that conversation, so you can ask about it or get more questions from it, and wiped after 7 days without using it (30 days at most, and sooner if you delete it). The quiz remains; your notes do not.
Put your notes to the test
