How it works

Practice and share

What kinds of PDF work best
Your own notes
Scanned PDFs or exports from Notion, GoodNotes, OneNote, anything.
Textbook chapters
Digital chapters or sections from manuals you already have as PDFs.
Professor slides
PowerPoint or Keynote presentations exported to PDF that your professor shares.
Classmate summaries
Those summaries that go around the class group. Same content, quiz format.
Why CanQuiz for PDFs
AI understands context, not just text
The AI doesn't pull questions from random words. It identifies the central concepts in your PDF and generates questions that actually test understanding.
Explanation for every question
Every answer comes with a short explanation so you learn, not just memorize.
Share with one link
Once the quiz is generated, share it on WhatsApp, Discord or wherever. Your classmates don't need an account to take it.
Works in English, Spanish and more
Questions come out in the language you write to CanQuiz in: English if you ask in English, Polish if you ask in Polish, even when the PDF is in another language.
CanQuiz vs other tools
CanQuiz isn't always the best choice. Here's the honest take.
| Tool | PDF to quiz | Free | Share quizzes | Question bank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CanQuiz | Yes, optimized | Yes, AI included | Yes, via link | No |
| ChatGPT | Yes, but needs prompting | Yes, with limits | Just the chat | No |
| Quizlet | Yes, with limits on the free plan | Limited | Yes | Yes, community |
| Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) | Yes, generates quizzes from your sources | Yes | Yes, via Google | No |
What the other tools do was checked on 9 September 2026 against their public documentation. They change often: NotebookLM was renamed Gemini Notebook in July 2026, and Quizlet opened up to the free plan what used to be Plus-only. If something here is out of date, write to hello@canquiz.com.
Frequently asked questions
Is CanQuiz free?
Yes. No subscription and no paid plan, and the size of the PDF changes nothing: an eighty-page syllabus spends the same generation as a three-page article. Only the thorough pass counts double. Saving the quiz and sharing it needs an account, which is also free.
Do I need an API key to convert a PDF?
No. Uploading a PDF and generating spends one generation, or two if you pick the thorough pass. There are 20 a month and up to 15 a day, no key and no card: that is twenty standalone chapters, or one big syllabus broken up topic by topic. If you run short, add your own Anthropic or OpenAI key and pay that usage to the provider.
What kinds of PDF does it accept?
Works with text PDFs and with scanned or photographed pages alike: the model reads the whole page. With a crooked or badly lit scan the result can vary.
How many questions does it generate?
A 10-page PDF usually yields 20 to 30 questions, because the count scales to how much material there is. If you want a specific number, type it when you generate and it overrides the estimate.
What languages does it work in?
Whichever you choose. Questions come out in the language you write your request in, whatever it is, even when the PDF is in another one: technical terms and proper nouns stay as the material has them.
Do I need an account?
Yes, an account is needed to generate, save your progress and share your quizzes. You can sign in with Google in seconds, or with an email link.
Can I edit the AI-generated questions?
Yes. After generating, you can edit any question, change options, tweak the explanation or remove ones you don't like.
How is my PDF processed?
Your PDF is processed by the AI CanQuiz provides, which today is Google (Gemini), or by Anthropic or OpenAI if you add your own key. You decide whether the resulting quiz is public or private.
Why not just use ChatGPT directly?
You can. The difference is CanQuiz is optimized to generate well-structured multiple-choice questions (with plausible options, explanations, consistent format) without you writing the prompt every time. Faster, more consistent, and you can share the result.
